K Rend Sunderland

K Rend comes up in most exterior enquiries, often as a shorthand for “modern coloured render”. It’s worth being clear: K Rend is a recognised branded rendering system — a manufacturer with a range of products — not a generic name for every type of render.

Modern coloured through-render finish on a house exterior with crisp bead lines

What people usually mean by it

Nine times out of ten, a homeowner asking for K Rend is describing the look: an even, through-coloured, slightly textured exterior finish with clean lines around the windows and no need for painting.

Several manufacturers produce systems that achieve that. K Rend is simply the name most people have heard, partly because it’s been widely used on new housing across the North East.

Where it tends to suit

Their silicone-based finishes are commonly specified on sound masonry backgrounds and on suitably prepared existing surfaces, built up over an appropriate base coat with reinforcement where the system requires it.

As with any system, the specification depends on the wall. The manufacturer’s instructions decide what goes where — not preference or habit.

Colour and texture

Colour choice is wide, and texture grade changes the look considerably. Lighter colours show a crisp modern finish but are less forgiving of staining under leaking gutters; mid tones tend to weather more evenly.

It’s worth looking at a finished house in daylight rather than choosing from a small sample. We can point you towards examples of finishes rather than guessing from a brochure.

Honest comparison

K Rend, other silicone systems and monocouche all give a through-coloured finish and all need proper preparation and detailing. Traditional sand and cement is still perfectly valid, particularly for repairs, and is normally painted.

We’re not tied to selling one system. The right answer is whatever suits the background, the property and the budget.
